Netflix original series: SOUTHCLIFFE

reviewed by DAD

In a word, “Poignant.” Southcliffe is not a mini-series for those looking for something light to have on as background noise.  It is a thought provoking and a deeply moving journey into the tragedy of a mass shooting in a small town.  Sean Harris, as Stephen Morton, does an incredible job of bringing a realistic face to an easily marginalized madman.  The entire cast is superb as they paint an intricate portrait of unanswerable misery.  The story’s plot-line is unfolded in a very unconventional way of flashbacks and flash forwards but it never becomes obtuse or hard to decipher.  Definitely not a date night flick, but one you should not miss if you love great film-making and storytelling.  A
